Briley Barefield was born on December 16, 2003, in Greeneville, Tennessee. In childhood, she fell in love with drawing, painting, and crafting. Her family supported her passions, enrolled her in summer art camps, and encouraged her to keep creating. She graduated from Greeneville High School in 2022, where she worked heavily in acrylic portraiture and watercolor landscapes under the direction of Heather Jones. She is currently a student at East Tennessee State University, pursuing a BA in Studio Art with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. At ETSU, Briley has refined her skills in painting, drawing, photography, and even jewelry design.
Briley’s current work reflects her experiences as a woman, exploring her identity through the concept of femininity. She is drawn to classic “feminine” iconography and color palettes, while also exploring the traditional roles that women are forced into. Her work explores the juxtaposition between classic femininity and the reality of relationships, mental health, and beauty standards.
